Overheating is one of the biggest preventable reasons for the Red Ring of Death on the Xbox 360. Here we'll go over some tips on how to keep the system running cooler and longer.

1. Do not play with the system laying horizontally. Stand it in a well ventilated area where it will not get bumped into. Moving the system around while a disc is spinning is what creates the circular scratches around the discs. So make sure the system is upright but in a secure position where it cannot be kicked over.
2. Shut the system off when you are done playing. Don't pause the game and forget about it.
3. Don't use the Xbox 360 to play DVDs. A dvd player is $30 at target or walmart, don't drain the life from your $300 Xbox.
4. Upgrade or mod the fans in your Xbox 360. Click the link to the tutorial just to the right to learn how to mod the fans. This relatively simple procedure keep your Xbox an average of 20-25 degrees cooler without needing to use a soldering iron!
5. Clean the system out every 6 months - 1 year. An incredible amount of dust can accumulate, acting like a sweater keeping those delicate electrical components hot.
